HBO Max has crushed it with a whopping 142 nominations for the 77th Emmy Awards, the most any platform has ever received. One of the leading contenders is the DC series The Penguin, which snagged 24 nominations, tying with The White Lotus for the most from HBO.
The Penguin has really made a mark across major categories, including nominations for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series, Lead Actor for Colin Farrell, Lead Actress for Cristin Milioti, and Supporting Actress for Deirdre O’Connell. The show’s directors and writer also earned individual nods. It’s a clear sign that DC is a force to be reckoned with in the prestige TV landscape. This recognition puts the spinoff of The Batman right in the Emmy spotlight.
HBO Max is truly owning it in multiple genres with other standout nominations like:
The White Lotus – 24 nominations, including Drama Series and various acting categories.
The Last of Us – 17 nominations, including Lead Actor (Pedro Pascal) and Lead Actress (Bella Ramsey).

But it doesn’t stop there! Max Originals like Dune: Prophecy, Conan O’Brien Must Go, and Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story also landed nominations, showcasing the platform’s versatility in scripted, nonfiction, and documentary content.
Casey Bloys, Chairman & CEO of HBO & HBO Max Content, praised the exceptional talent showcased across the Emmy-nominated projects. He highlighted the broad range of programming and creative excellence celebrated in their lineup.
Now, the burning question on everyone’s mind – will there be a Season 2 of DC’s The Penguin? While nothing is set in stone yet, showrunner Lauren LeFranc and director Matt Reeves have been bouncing around ideas. However, the primary focus right now is on getting Reeves’ The Batman Part II into production.
If another season of The Penguin does come along, it might tie in with the film and could see Colin Farrell reprising his role. But as of now, there’s no official timeline for an announcement.
