Peacock Captured in Pennsylvania, One Still at Large
Authorities in Bucks County, Pennsylvania are on the lookout for a pair of runaway peacocks who were last spotted in the area. An alert issued by the Doylestown Township Police notified residents that the birds had been seen wandering around Theodore Way and Sandy Ridge Road. The police urged anyone with information about the peacocks’ owners to contact them directly for help. The Bucks County SPCA has also been notified and is assisting in the search efforts.
Rescuers from Pocono Wildlife, based in Stroudsburg, were called in to help capture the birds. They managed to catch one of the peacocks, but the other flew away from the scene. According to Sampson Metzgar, Pocono Wildlife’s lead avian specialist, capturing peacocks can be quite challenging as they are fast runners and skilled flyers. Metzgar believes that the peacocks were likely pets that either escaped or were abandoned by their owner.
Peacocks are known to be able to run at high speeds and can cover great distances when flying. Metzgar explained that they can fly up to a mile, depending on factors like altitude and weather conditions. Despite the difficulty of catching these birds, the rescue team remains hopeful that they will be able to locate and safely capture the remaining peacock.
Animal lovers and residents in the area are urged to keep an eye out for the loose peacocks and report any sightings to the authorities. With the community’s help and the efforts of the rescue team, it’s hoped that both peacocks will be safely returned to where they belong.
