War Between Land and Sea Panel Absence at San Diego Comic Con
The Doctor Who spin-off, “The War Between the Land and the Sea,” unfortunately won’t have a panel at this year’s San Diego Comic Con. This seems to be part of a larger trend where studios are shying away from big panels in Hall H, the massive 6,500-seat venue at the San Diego Convention Center that’s been known for major announcements at SDCC.
Last year, the five-part spin-off series was officially announced at the Doctor Who panel at SDCC. It’s written by Russell T Davies and Pete McTighe, with direction from Dylan Holmes Williams.
The spin-off delves into what happens with UNIT (Unified Intelligence Taskforce) in the absence of the Doctor. The Sea Devils, an ancient and fearsome race, awaken from their oceanic slumber to witness the devastating pollution of the seas. They emerge, declaring war on humanity and triggering an international crisis. With the entire world at risk, UNIT must step in as the land and sea clash on a grand scale.
Fans can look forward to some “easter eggs” from “The War Between the Land and the Sea” at the Doctor Who UNIT Black Archive exhibit during SDCC. The exhibit, located in The Harbor Club in San Diego’s Gaslamp District, will likely feature props from the spin-off.
In the UK, the series will be available on BBC iPlayer and BBC One, and for viewers outside the UK, it will be exclusive to Disney+. While the trailer teases a “coming soon” release, official sources suggest that the five-part series will start airing later this year.
