HBO Max’s First Move: Canceling 92% Rated One-Season Show

HBO Max is making some big moves after bringing back its original name. Two years after rebranding as Max, the platform is now back to being HBO Max. While this is exciting news, not every show that was streaming on HBO Max has made the cut. One of the first casualties under the revived name is “Duster,” a crime drama with a stellar 92% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Despite its critical acclaim, the show has been cancelled after just one season.

Less than a week after the finale of its first season, “Duster,” created by J.J. Abrams and LaToya Morgan, has been axed, as reported by Deadline. This decision may come as a surprise to fans, given the show’s impressive rating. However, it seems that “Duster” struggled to gain traction and didn’t make Nielsen’s Top 10 list for streaming originals. In a statement to Deadline, HBO Max expressed gratitude for the talented creators and cast of the series but announced the end of “Duster” after just one season.

Fans who had been eagerly awaiting “Duster” for five years will be disappointed by this news. The series was ordered back in April 2020 and had completed filming some time ago. Despite efforts to shop the show to other platforms, Warner Bros. and Bad Robot were unsuccessful in finding it a new home. As a result, it seems unlikely that “Duster” will see a revival anytime soon.

While it’s tough to say goodbye to “Duster,” there is still plenty to look forward to on HBO Max. As the service continues to rebrand, new shows are in the works including a second season of the medical drama “The Pitt” and a spinoff of “The Big Bang Theory.” While “Duster” may be gone, there are undoubtedly more exciting shows on the horizon.
