HBO Max Cancels 1970s DUSTER Series After One Season

HBO’s Duster has been canceled after just one season, leaving fans disappointed after the series wrapped up its season finale last week. The show, created by LaToya Morgan and J.J. Abrams, premiered in May on HBO Max and starred Josh Holloway as a getaway driver and Rachel Hilson as a determined young FBI agent in the 1970s Southwest crime world.

Although the show didn’t grab my attention, many viewers enjoyed the gritty, retro crime drama. HBO Max expressed gratitude for the opportunity to work with the talented co-creators and cast of Duster. Despite the cancellation, they acknowledged the incredible collaboration and partnership on the series.

Originally announced in 2020 as part of Abrams’ deal with Warner Bros. Television, Duster was the only live-action series from that deal to make it to HBO Max. While other projects like Justice League Dark and a Shining-inspired spinoff never made it past development, Duster had its time in the spotlight.

Warner Bros. Television praised Abrams and Morgan for creating a multi-dimensional crime drama that brought the 1970s back to life in an innovative way. The talented ensemble cast, led by Holloway and Hilson, played a significant role in portraying the textured characters loved by the audience.

Although the journey of Duster has come to an end, both Warner Bros. Television and HBO Max expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to tell the story of Jim and Nina. They thanked the partners, cast, and crew for their dedication and hard work on the series.
