Amazon to Discontinue Free Streaming Service Next Month
Amazon has announced that it will be shutting down its popular free streaming service, Freevee, by August 2025. This decision is part of a move to encourage viewers to watch content on Prime Video. According to Tech Crunch, Prime Video will now be the exclusive home for Freevee TV shows, movies, and Live TV.
The Freevee service first launched in 2019 under the name “IMDb TV” before being rebranded as Freevee in 2022. Amazon made the decision to wind down the service in November 2024 to provide a simpler viewing experience for customers, as reported by Deadline.
Popular original series on Freevee include “Jury Duty,” which was nominated for an Emmy, as well as “Bosch: Legacy,” “Alex Rider,” and more. These shows are all available to watch for free, with ads, within the Prime Video platform.
If you’re a fan of Freevee, be sure to catch your favorite shows before the service shuts down in August. You can continue watching Free Originals and a library of hit movies, shows, and live TV on Prime Video for free, with no subscription required. Simply download the Prime Video app, sign in with your Amazon account, and enjoy your favorite content.
Amazon has not yet responded to requests for comment on the shutdown of the Freevee service. Stay tuned for any further updates on this change.
