F1 Surpasses Napoleon as Apple’s Top Box Office Champ with $293m Global Box Office in 10 Days
Apple’s recent big-screen hit, “F1: The Movie,” has taken the lead as Apple’s most successful release yet. According to a report from Variety, the film has earned an impressive $293 million globally in just the first ten days since its release.
During its opening weekend alone, “F1” brought in a whopping $146 million, and it has continued to soar, surpassing the earnings of Apple’s previous top releases, such as “Napoleon” and “Killers of the Flower Moon.” It’s worth noting that not all of Apple’s recent films have performed as well, with “Fly Me to the Moon” and “Argylle” falling short of expectations.
One key factor contributing to the success of “F1” is the support from IMAX screenings, which brought in $60 million globally, accounting for about 20% of total ticket sales. The movie has been particularly popular in markets such as the United States, Canada, China, the United Kingdom, Mexico, France, and Australia.
While “F1” has seen impressive box office numbers, it still has a ways to go before turning a profit. The film’s production costs exceeded $250 million, with an additional $100 million spent on marketing. Typically, a film needs to make at least twice its production and promotional costs to start earning a profit. Revenue from box office sales is divided between studios and exhibitors.
Once “F1” finishes its run in theaters, it is expected to become available on Apple TV+ later this year. The movie’s success is a testament to the power of compelling storytelling and star-studded casts, and fans are eagerly anticipating its release on streaming platforms.
