Ten Peacock Babies Were Born Artificially

Great news from the Jungle Mahal Zoological Park in Jhadgram – ten baby peacocks were born through artificial means for the first time! About 28 days ago, officials at the zoo set up an incubator using a large polystyrene box with a light bulb to regulate the temperature, ranging from 37.5 to 38.5 degrees Celsius. They placed 25 peacock eggs inside the incubator. Nearly 28 days later, 10 baby peacocks hatched from the eggs using artificial methods. These newborn peacocks have a preference for eating insects, so a zoo employee has been appointed to catch bugs for them.
There are still 15 eggs left in the incubator. The forest department claims that out of the 25 eggs, babies have emerged from ten eggs, and the rest of the eggs will also hatch soon.
What is an Incubator?
An incubator is a device that provides a controlled environment, typically maintaining stable temperature, humidity, and sometimes CO2 levels, used to enhance the development and growth of biological samples, cultures, or embryos. It creates favorable conditions for cells, tissues, or eggs to thrive. The DFO of Jhadgram, Umar Imam, shared that “natural breeding of animals, birds, and other creatures is taking place in the park surrounded by forests”.
This is exciting news for conservation efforts in the region, showing how artificial means can help protect and conserve endangered species like peacocks. Download the Bhaskar app for more news like this!
