Watch the top movie event of 2025 on HBO Max
At the halfway point of 2025, the standout movie has undeniably been “Sinners.” This vampire horror flick made a big splash in theaters and is now ready for streaming on HBO Max. For those who are deaf or hard of hearing, HBO Max is offering a Black American Sign Language (BASL) version of “Sinners.”
Starring Michael B. Jordan as Elijah “Smoke” Moore and Elias “Stack” Moore, also known as the Smokestack twins, the film follows their journey after returning from World War I to Mississippi. They are set on opening a juke joint that caters to the Black community, and their opening night is a hit, filled with energetic music, dancing, and strong drinks.
However, the party takes a dark turn when Remmick (played by Jack O’Connell), an Irish vampire, crashes the celebration with plans to turn everyone into bloodthirsty creatures. The survivors of the party refuse to go down without a fight, setting the stage for an epic showdown between humans and vampires.
In addition to Michael B. Jordan and Jack O’Connell, “Sinners” also features a talented cast including Hailee Steinfeld, Miles Caton, Wunmi Mosaku, Jayme Lawson, Omar Miller, and Delroy Lindo.
This gripping tale was brought to life by Ryan Coogler, who not only directed but also wrote and produced the film. As Coogler’s fifth feature film, “Sinners” has been met with critical acclaim, earning praise as one of the top movies of the year. In one review, Anthony Orlando awarded the movie a perfect 5-star rating, describing it as a “fantastic and frightening masterpiece from one of cinema’s best, most ambitious directors.”
Aside from its critical success, “Sinners” also made a significant impact at the box office. In an era dominated by sequels and franchises, Coogler’s original R-rated horror film proved to be a refreshing and successful venture.
