Drug Lord Janus van W. Jailed for Murder Plot Linked to Netflix Series
Janus van W., the infamous 63-year-old drug trafficker whose life inspired the Netflix hit series Undercover, was recently arrested in Eindhoven. The arrest came amidst news of an alleged murder plot against Van W., linked to long-standing rivalries in the Brabant underworld. According to insiders, Van W. found out about the plan when a suspected hitman approached him directly. In a dramatic move, he wrote a letter in which he accused Hans van der V., his 70-year-old former competitor known by the alias “De Uil,” of orchestrating the scheme. The handwritten letter, accompanied by a revolver and USB drives marked with payment details related to the alleged murder arrangement, made its way around criminal circles in Brabant.
This narrative of tension and danger has roots that go back years. Van W. made a name for himself in the 1980s smuggling hashish and later dealing large quantities of ecstasy. Recent clashes with Netflix over the portrayal of his character Ferry Bouman in their series heightened the conflict, leading Van W. to push back against any insinuations that he cooperated with law enforcement.
On the other side, Hans van der V., a former drug pioneer, was convicted in 2013 for his involvement in major drug rings. His home has been targeted multiple times in recent months, with incidents escalating to gunfire, causing property damage and temporary eviction.
While both Van W. and Van der V. have remained silent on the alleged dispute, legal proceedings and investigations continue. The national police service is looking into drug-related activities involving Van W. and his associates, with a focus on activities such as crystal meth production and cocaine sales spanning several years.
In another ongoing development, several incidents of conflict led to police interventions and formal warnings for both men. The arrests of Van W. and his associate were accelerated due to increased violence in the underworld of Brabant, resulting in their detention by law enforcement officials.
