Amazon Freevee streaming TV service to shut down in August
Amazon is saying goodbye to its Freevee streaming TV service next month as it streamlines its content offerings under Prime Video. Freevee, originally part of IMDb which Amazon acquired in 1998, provided users with a range of free, ad-supported videos, including original series and some Prime Video content, all through an app.
Come August, the Freevee app will be shut down, and users will be able to enjoy shows and movies on Prime Video for free, even without a Prime membership. Amazon shared a notice with users informing them that Prime Video will now be the exclusive home for Freevee TV shows, movies, and Live TV content.
After introducing ads on Prime Video in January 2024, Amazon decided to retire the Freevee service to offer customers a simpler viewing experience, as reported by Deadline in November.
Prime Video is available as part of a $15 monthly Prime membership, or as a standalone service for $9. Users have the option to pay an additional $2 per month to enjoy content without ads.
This move signifies Amazon’s commitment to enhancing its streaming offerings and providing an improved viewing experience for its users. Get ready to enjoy all your favorite shows and movies under one roof on Prime Video!
