Paramount+ releases new hip-hop documentary series: “Hip Hop Was Born Here”
Starting on July 22, you’ll have the chance to dive into the world of hip-hop with Paramount+ and their new five-part documentary series, “Hip Hop Was Born Here.” This exciting series will kick off in the US, Canada, and select parts of Latin America, giving viewers a front-row seat to the genre’s journey from block parties to global fame. And let me tell you, this isn’t your average music show.
LL Cool J, a true hip-hop icon, takes the lead as the executive director and co-creator of the series, alongside Pro Football Hall of Famer Peyton Manning. According to Hollywood Outbreak, the show promises to explore the very essence of hip-hop, delving into its origins, evolution, and profound impact on global culture.
In the trailer, we catch glimpses of music legends like Big Daddy Kane, Doug E. Fresh, Method Man, and Rev Run sharing their personal stories and contributions to the vibrant hip-hop culture. Method Man himself reflects on the incredible journey, saying, “Who would ever think that we could be world-famous doing something that we love? I would’ve never imagined that.”
The series takes us on a tour of key hip-hop landmarks, from DJ Kool Herc’s park in the Bronx to intimate studio sessions with various artists breaking down their biggest hits and sharing unheard anecdotes from the early days.
But the star power doesn’t stop there. Salt-N-Pepa’s very own Salt, Roxanne Shante, and Grandmaster Caz are just a few of the many legendary voices joining the lineup. Newcomers like Lady London and Crystal Caines will add their own flavor to the mix alongside hip-hop veterans Jadakiss, Marley Marl, Sheek Louch, and Bimmy.
Collaborating with Rock The Bells and Omaha Productions, MTV Entertainment Studios is set to deliver an unforgettable series, with Kirk Fraser onboard as an executive producer and MTV’s Bruce Gillmer and Vanessa Whitewolf at the helm. And for our international friends, the show will hit the UK, Australia, and parts of Europe on July 23.
This series marks yet another milestone for LL Cool J, who continues to make history in the music world. With his latest album, “The Force,” released last fall and Q-Tip as the lead producer, LL Cool J shows no signs of slowing down. So mark your calendars and get ready to immerse yourself in the rich history and culture of hip-hop with “Hip Hop Was Born Here” on Paramount+.
