Prime Day Predictions: Don’t Count on Streaming Deals, Blu-ray Sales Expected
Amazon Prime Day is just around the corner, and while you might be hoping for some sweet streaming deals, it looks like the focus will be more on physical media this time. From July 8-11, Amazon will be offering a four-day sale event with most of the deals happening on their own site.
If you’re like me and looking to save some cash on subscriptions, you might be a little disappointed. Prime Day discounts are more about Amazon’s own products and services. Prime memberships are a big deal during this time, giving you access to exclusive deals, free shipping, and of course, Prime Video.
While Prime Video might not be your first choice for streaming, they have beefed up their library with original series like The Rings of Power and The Boys, as well as a variety of movies. And for all you young adults out there, Amazon has a new Prime deal just for you. If you’re between the ages of 18-24, you can snag a 50% discount on your membership, plus a 6-month free trial.
Now, don’t get your hopes up for big discounts on other streaming services. While Amazon lets you add additional services as Channel Add-Ons, the actual subscription discounts are up to the individual services. If you’re eyeing Netflix, Hulu, Max, or Disney+, you might have better luck waiting for Black Friday deals.
But fear not, physical media collectors! Prime Day is expected to bring discounts on DVDs and Blu-rays. Amazon typically offers deals like “Buy One, Get One Half Off” on DVDs, and they’re currently price-matching a Barnes & Noble sale on The Criterion Collection. So, if you’ve been eyeing some new additions to your collection, keep an eye out for those Prime Day deals.
