Prime Day Deals: Expect Blu-ray Sales, Not Streaming Discounts

As we gear up for Amazon Prime Day 2025, it’s good to know that this year’s event will actually span four days, from July 8-11, with most of the deals landing on Amazon’s platform. Even though we might be hoping for some subscription discounts, the reality is that streaming deals might not be the main focus this time around. But fear not, media fans, there are still plenty of exciting deals to look forward to during the sale.

Amazon has already introduced some new Prime discounts, emphasizing the benefits of a Prime membership beyond just free shipping. With a Prime membership, you also get access to Prime Video, which has been expanding its library with original series like The Rings of Power, The Boys, and Fleabag, along with a diverse collection of movies like The Accountant 2 and Sonic the Hedgehog 3.

One of the recent announcements is the Prime for Young Adults deal, offering a 50% discount for 18-24 year olds who sign up for Amazon Prime. This deal also includes a generous 6-month free trial, making it one of the most extended streaming free trials around. But with this new deal already in place, it’s unlikely that Amazon will offer further discounts on Prime or Prime Video during Prime Day itself.

While it’s tempting to hold out for discounts on other streaming services, like Netflix, Hulu, Max, and Disney+, it’s more realistic to expect better deals around Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Last year, we saw offers like Hulu for $0.99/month, Max for $2.99/month, and a full year of Peacock for $19.99, mostly limited to ad-supported tiers.

If you’re a physical media collector, fear not! Prime Day will still feature a ton of discounts on Blu-rays and 4Ks, making it a great time to add to your collection. Keep an eye out for “Buy One, Get One Half Off” deals on DVDs and other price-matching sales, like the current one on The Criterion Collection at Barnes & Noble.

As we look ahead to Amazon Prime Day 2025, remember that while streaming deals might not be the highlight this time, there’s still plenty to look forward to – especially if you’re a fan of collecting DVDs and Blu-rays.
