Étoile Stars React to Prime Video Cancelling Ballet Show

The news broke recently that Étoile, the ballet comedy-drama series on Prime Video, got canceled after just one season, despite initially being ordered for two seasons. The cast members gathered at a SCAD Lacoste Film Festival event in Lacoste, France to honor the show and share their thoughts on the cancellation.

Actor Ivan du Pontavice expressed his disappointment about the cancellation but also highlighted the importance of celebrating the fact that the show existed. He mentioned, “We’re just celebrating the experience. We like to tell tales about how it happened, our experience, it still feels very fresh. It just came out, and we’re still very excited about being a part of it.”

Yanic Truesdale, who played a trainer in the show, emphasized the strong bonds he formed with his castmates, saying, “This was the one job in 36 years on which I made the most friends. At a human level, the fact that we won’t be able to hang out on set anymore is a big disappointment.”

Looking ahead to Season 2 storylines that the creators had in mind, Truesdale mentioned, “The second season, once everything is established, is really when they start to fly with the material.”

Reflecting on the challenges faced by streaming TV shows and dance companies, Taïs Vinolo drew parallels, saying, “It’s all about the money and no longer about the art. It’s very sad. This show did such a good job at showing that.”

Despite the cancellation, cast member Pontavice remains optimistic about the show’s lasting impact. He believes that, with time, people will come to appreciate the show even more and that it will stand the test of time.

The show, which featured a talented cast including Luke Kirby, Charlotte Gainsbourg, and Kelly Bishop, told the story of two struggling dance companies swapping their top performers in a bid to save themselves. Created by Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino, the show had garnered attention for its unique concept and storytelling.

While the future of Étoile may appear uncertain, the impact it had on its cast and viewers is undeniable. Despite its premature ending, it has left a mark on those involved and may continue to resonate with audiences in the years to come.
