Bruins select Long Island native James Hagens with 7th overall pick

In the recent NHL draft, Long Island native James Hagens was thrilled to be selected by the Boston Bruins with the No. 7 pick. Although many local fans were hoping he would join the Islanders, Hagens has been making a name for himself on the ice.

The 18-year-old forward had an impressive season playing college hockey at Boston College, scoring 11 goals and dishing out 26 assists in 37 games. Prior to that, he was a key player for the USA Hockey National Team Development Program, where he put up impressive numbers.

Even though Hagens grew up supporting the Islanders and there was speculation that they might pick him, the team opted for a different strategy in the draft. Instead of trading up for Hagens, the Islanders made deals that secured them the No. 16 and No. 17 picks, ultimately choosing Swedish left wing Victor Eklund and Canadian defenseman Kashawn Aitcheson.

Despite not being selected by his hometown team, Hagens expressed his excitement at the prospect of playing for the Bruins. He mentioned how special it would be to come back to where his hockey journey began and play for a team with such a rich history.

Overall, Hagens remains grateful for the opportunity to pursue his dreams in the NHL and is looking forward to making an impact with the Boston Bruins.
