Cyclist murdered by friend’s jealous girlfriend: Investigation by ’20/20′ – ABC News

In a tragic turn of events, rising cycling star Anna Moriah Wilson was fatally shot in Austin, Texas, just days before a big race back in May 2022. The person who saw her last was fellow cyclist Colin Strickland, with whom Wilson had a fleeting romance that transitioned back to friendship. The investigation swiftly pointed to a suspect: Kaitlin Armstrong, Strickland’s girlfriend who was known for her on-again, off-again relationship with him.
ABC News chief national correspondent Matt Gutman delves deep into the unsettling murder, the 43-day manhunt that spanned state and international borders, and the subsequent trial that concluded in November 2023. Currently, Armstrong is challenging the verdict, with a decision pending. The upcoming two-hour episode of ’20/20′ includes exclusive interviews with Mike Armstrong, Kaitlin’s father; Nicole Mertz, a former friend who alerted the police about concerning comments Armstrong made related to Wilson; and a neighbor whose surveillance footage proved critical in the case.
The lineup also features conversations with Jose Garza, the Travis County district attorney, as well as prosecutors Rickey Jones and Guillermo Gonzalez. Moreover, viewers will get insights from Armstrong’s neighbors in Costa Rica, including someone who witnessed her arrest. Be sure to catch ’20/20′ this Friday, June 27 (9:01-11:00 p.m. EDT), on ABC, or stream it the next day on Hulu. If you missed it, there’s a rebroadcast planned for January 5, 2024.
