Hulu’s upcoming series, Washington Black, is taking off in its first trailer. Based on the bestseller by Esi Edugyan, the show follows the captivating journey of George Washington “Wash” Black as he escapes a sugar plantation for a life of adventure. Played by Ernest Kingsley Junior and Eddie Karanja, Wash travels far and wide, showcasing his scientific skills and unwavering spirit in an eight-episode globe-trotting saga.

Set in the 19th century, Washington Black charts Wash’s path from Barbados to various distant lands, where he confronts challenges that reshape his notions of family, freedom, and love. With a prodigious scientific mind and unexpected destiny, Wash navigates uncharted territories and unimaginable odds in search of a future beyond societal confines.

Executive produced by and starring Sterling K. Brown, the series also features Tom Ellis as Wash’s mentor, Christopher ‘Titch’ Wilde. Brown portrays Medwin Harris, a refugee turned community leader in Halifax, who guides Wash and others escaping slavery towards new lives. With themes of courage, imagination, and resilience, Washington Black promises a compelling odyssey of discovery and growth.
