Netflix Drops 4-Part Spy Thriller Series Starring Line of Duty Star
Hey spy thriller fans! Netflix has recently added a new four-part series based on a bestselling novel and starring actors from Line of Duty, Adolescence, and Mr Bates vs the Post Office. Originally a BBC production, The Secret Agent features Toby Jones, Vicky McClure, and Stephen Graham, and is a modern take on Joseph Conrad’s classic novel.
The series follows Mr. Anton Verloc, played by Toby Jones, a businessman running a shop in Soho and secretly working as a spy for the Russian embassy, tasked with orchestrating a bombing blamed on anarchists. Vicky McClure stars as his wife, Winnie, and Stephen Graham as Chief Inspector Heat from Scotland Yard.
In addition to the talented main cast, the series also features Ian Hart, David Dawson, Charlie Hamblett, George Costigan, and Penny Downie in supporting roles.
Critics have had mixed reviews of The Secret Agent, with some praising the strong performances and gripping storyline. Radio Times called it a “gripping period tale exploring urgent modern anxieties” and highlighted the performances of the main actors. However, The Guardian felt that the series took liberties with the novel, impacting the claustrophobic atmosphere.
