Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey Apple TV+ Comedy Series Showrunner Departs
A recent production snag has put a temporary halt on the highly anticipated Apple TV+ comedy series starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. According to Deadline, filming was paused last week in Austin, Texas, and the cast, which also includes Holland Taylor, Natalie Martinez, and Brittany Ishibashi, was sent home.
With eight out of the 10 episodes already filmed, former showrunner David West Read has exited the project due to creative differences about the season’s conclusion. Lee Eisenberg is currently in talks to take over showrunner responsibilities for the remaining two episodes and potential reshoots.
The half-hour comedy series features McConaughey and Harrelson playing fictionalized versions of themselves as they navigate life on McConaughey’s Texas ranch. The show was announced by Apple TV+ over two years ago, with a focus on the unique bond between the two actors.
David Read, the show’s creator, was joined by a team of executive producers including McConaughey, Harrelson, and others. The series also stars Oona Yaffe, Highdee Kuan, Nolan Almeida, Ella Grace Helton, and Noah Carganilla as the actors’ children.
Prior to this project, Read has worked on a variety of stage musicals, TV series, and adaptations. Meanwhile, Eisenberg has a history with Apple TV+ and has been involved in producing various shows for the platform.
Despite this temporary setback, fans are eagerly awaiting the debut of this star-studded comedy series. Stay tuned for more updates as production resumes and the show gets back on track.
