Emma Hayes selects 3 Gotham FC players for USWNT roster

The United States women’s national team has named three Gotham FC players to its roster for the upcoming training camp and friendlies. Veteran midfielder Rose Lavelle and defender Emily Sonnet, with 110 and 108 caps respectively, will be joined by 21-year-old midfielder Lilly Reale, who is receiving her first international call-up.

The USWNT has a series of friendlies lined up for the camp, starting next week until the first week of July. The matches include games against the Republic of Ireland and Canada. This camp is an important opportunity for Reale to showcase her skills to head coach Emma Hayes. Having joined Gotham on January 3 after a successful stint at UCLA, where she was recognized as Defensive Player of the Year for three consecutive seasons, Reale will be looking to earn her first Senior Team cap. The midfielder has experience with USWNT youth teams and scored her first NWSL goal on April 13 in a dominating win against the North Carolina Courage.

It also presents a chance for Lavelle to reintegrate herself into the squad after recovering from an injury sustained last November. Sonnet, who was the only Gotham player at the May camp, will provide leadership alongside Lavelle to a team with a majority of inexperienced players. In fact, six out of the 25 players named for the camp have zero caps, while 13 have fewer than 10.

Joining the trio are two Gotham alums, goalkeeper Mandy McGlynn and standout attacker Yazmeen Ryan. McGlynn, known for her heroic performance in Gotham’s 2023 title-winning game, will be part of the camp, along with Ryan, who left Gotham in a landmark trade with the Houston Dash.

With a mix of experience and fresh talent, the USWNT looks set for an exciting and promising camp ahead. Let’s root for our Gotham FC players as they represent the red, white, and blue on the international stage!
