Netflix’s ad-supported plan gains 94 million monthly active users
Netflix recently shared that their ad-supported plan now boasts an impressive 94 million monthly active subscribers, which is a significant increase from November 2024. This budget-friendly option came to life back in November 2022, and it’s playing a crucial role in Netflix’s financial strategy as they grapple with ballooning content costs. Priced at $7.99 per month, this ad-supported plan stands out as the more wallet-friendly alternative to the $17.99 ad-free option.
According to Amy Reinhard, the President of Advertising at Netflix, an average “ad-only” viewer spends roughly 41 hours per month on the platform, outpacing many of its competitors. Reinhard also highlighted that ads on Netflix remain captivating, garnering attention on par with the platform’s content itself. Moreover, Netflix points out that the ad reach extends to a larger audience of viewers aged 18 to 34 compared to any other cable or broadcast network in the US.
The ad-supported plan is currently accessible in several key markets, including the US, the UK, Canada, Australia, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Mexico, South Korea, and Spain. Netflix has introduced this offering in more than 40 countries to date, with the ad-supported plan capturing over 40% of new subscriptions in each market where it’s available. Unfortunately, this option is not yet up for grabs in Ukraine.
