Rex Heuermann’s Friend Talks About His Basement Gun Room

Creepy alleged serial murderer Rex Heuermann had a fascination with firearms and maintained an extensive weapons collection in a hidden basement room, accessible to very few people.

David Jimenez, a friend of Heuermann and a fellow firearms enthusiast, had the privilege of seeing this infamous “gun room” multiple times and was reportedly one of only four individuals allowed entry. According to Jimenez, Heuermann took pride in sharing his collection and knowledge of each firearm’s history, including details from various wars.

Interestingly, despite his vast arsenal, it appears that Heuermann did not use firearms in the alleged killings he is accused of. Following his arrest in 2023 for the murders of seven sex workers, law enforcement discovered around 279 weapons in his family home, along with numerous handgun permits and some firearms that were illegally possessed.

The seized weapons were kept in a secured vault with a large iron door, and some were found to be owned without the necessary permits. Although Heuermann’s family sought to reclaim and potentially sell the confiscated firearms, it remains unclear whether this request was granted or if the weapons are still in police custody.

Heuermann’s wife and children were reportedly barred from accessing the gun room, and Jimenez emphasized that although the number of firearms may seem excessive, it is not uncommon for dedicated collectors to acquire such quantities gradually over time.

Accused of disposing of human remains across Long Island over nearly two decades, Heuermann maintains his innocence and is awaiting trial. The Peacock documentary “The Gilgo Beach Killer: House of Secrets” offers a closer look into this chilling case, shedding light on the dark secrets hidden in Heuermann’s home.
