Warner Bros. Discovery Announces Split into Two Companies

Warner Bros. Discovery, the entertainment powerhouse known for iconic TV channels like CNN, TNT, and TBS, is making a big change. The company announced that it will be splitting in two, undoing the merger that brought Warner Bros. and Discovery together back in 2022.

So, what does this split look like? Well, Warner’s TV channels, along with Discovery+ and Bleacher Report, will now be under a new entity called Global Networks. On the other side, the film studios and streaming services like HBO Max will be part of Streaming & Studios, led by current CEO David Zaslav.

Why the split, you ask? Warner’s leadership says that by dividing into two separate entities, they can focus more on their core businesses and have more opportunities for deals and partnerships. Some experts speculate that Warner might be considering selling off Global Networks, as traditional cable TV continues to lose ground to streaming services. Warner also saw a decrease in the value of its TV networks by $9.1 billion last year, while HBO continues to draw viewers with hit shows like White Lotus and The Pitt.

This split also marks a reversal of the merger between Warner Bros.’ high-profile content and Discovery’s reality programming, which didn’t sit well with some investors.

This move follows a trend in the industry, with Comcast-owned NBCUniversal also creating a separate company for its cable channels like CNBC and MSNBC called Versant.

Change is in the air in the world of TV and streaming, and Warner Bros. Discovery is making big moves to adapt. Stay tuned for more updates on how this split may impact your favorite shows and streaming services!
