Doctor Who Actor Reportedly Dead at Disney+
Rumors are swirling about the fate of Doctor Who and its potential deal with Disney+. Reports suggest that the deal is falling through, and Disney may not be supporting or producing Season 3.
Doctor Who is experiencing some of its lowest ratings in its 60-year history, without even making it onto the Nielsen ratings charts. Disney has been cutting back on budgets and output for its Disney+ shows, including Marvel and Star Wars.
A YouTuber called Tachyon Pulse Podcast claims that Disney is not planning to renew its deal with Doctor Who, effectively ending their involvement with the series. According to the YouTuber’s sources, there will be no extension to the deal.
It’s reported that Disney wanted full control over Doctor Who, even going as far as wanting to pick the new showrunner and the next Doctor. They also sought access to the entire Doctor Who library, with a focus on the David Tennant and Matt Smith years, but international rights issues are complicating that.
While there has been no official confirmation yet about the future of Doctor Who on Disney+, rumors suggest that there might be hope for the series at Amazon. Sony owns Russell T Davies’ Bad Wolf production company, and it’s a potential option for the show to continue. However, similar to Disney, Amazon may also want the entire Doctor Who library, which the BBC is reportedly against.
The recent Season 2 finale and the regeneration into Rose Tyler are sparking speculation, but it’s unclear what this means for the show’s future. Russell T Davies has hinted at a possible hiatus for Doctor Who, perhaps lasting a couple of years. Only time will tell what lies ahead for the beloved series.
