2025 BET Awards Roll on Despite Protests and Unrest in DTLA
The BET Awards are set to take place on Monday night in downtown L.A. as scheduled, even amidst protests and unrest in the area. The show will be broadcast live from the Peacock Theater at L.A. Live for the East Coast and will air on tape delay in the west. This event celebrates the triumphs and successes of artists, entertainers, and athletes across various categories, marking 25 years of the annual celebration which began back in 2001.
Kevin Hart will be hosting this year’s show, with performances scheduled from artists like Lil Wayne, Teyana Taylor, GloRilla, Playboi Carti, and Leon Thomas. Scott Mills, BET president and chief executive, expressed excitement over having Kevin Hart return as the host, citing his talent and deep connection with the audience. Connie Orlando, an executive vice president at BET, shared that the night will be a celebration of 25 years of impact, creativity, and Black culture, featuring electrifying performances and an iconic comedic host.
Kendrick Lamar leads the nominations this year with 10 nods, followed by Doechii, Drake, Future, and GloRilla with six each. Metro Boomin received five nominations, while SZA and the Weeknd have four each. Additionally, there are seven individuals with three nominations each: Ayra Starr, Chris Brown, Lil Wayne, Maverick City Music, Playboi Carti, Teddy Swims, and Tyler, the Creator.
