Netflix Adaptation of Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld: Anime Release in July
Netflix is diving into the world of anime with an exciting new adaptation of Scott Westerfeld’s bestselling steampunk novel series, Leviathan. Scheduled to premiere on July 10, this anime transports viewers to an alternate version of 1914, where mechanized war machines clash with genetically engineered beasts. The story follows Prince Aleksandar and a daring girl disguised as a boy named Deryn, as they find themselves aboard a living airship that could change the course of history.
Created in collaboration with Qubic Pictures and the esteemed Studio Orange, known for their work on BEASTARS and Trigun Stampede, Leviathan promises to blend Western narrative depth with Japanese animation craftsmanship. Additionally, the series features a stellar musical lineup, including a cinematic score by Nobuko Toda and Kazuma Jinnouchi, along with original songs by iconic composer Joe Hisaishi from Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke.
Fans can expect more exciting details during a press event on June 6, which will reveal plans for Leviathan’s world premiere screening and a special panel at Anime Expo. In the meantime, mark your calendars for July 10 when Leviathan makes its global debut on Netflix.
Netflix’s adaptation of Scott Westerfeld’s Uglies may have fallen short, but with Leviathan, fans are hopeful for a more faithful and compelling interpretation in the anime format. Stay tuned for more updates and get ready to embark on an unforgettable steampunk adventure when Leviathan hits Netflix on July 10.
