Apple TV+ poised to secure new MLB package
It looks like Apple TV+ is on the brink of landing a new streaming deal with Major League Baseball, as reported by Sports Business Journal. Apple already has the rights to Friday Night Baseball, and they are now eyeing a Sunday night package that was previously held by ESPN. NBC, owned by Comcast, is also interested in acquiring ESPN’s MLB rights, but Apple might outbid them for the Sunday night games specifically.
According to reports, Apple currently pays about $85 million per season for Friday Night Baseball, which they secured in a deal announced back in 2022 and running through 2028. Sources suggest that Apple’s offer would likely exceed what NBC is willing to pay, especially if it’s focused on the Sunday night games. Any agreement reached would probably be a three-year contract, setting MLB up to have all its national rights available in 2028, coinciding with the end of deals with Fox Sports and TNT Sports.
It’s clear that Apple sees the value in Friday Night Baseball and wants to expand their MLB coverage on Apple TV+. Time will tell if Apple ends up snagging the Sunday night package as well, but it’s certainly an exciting prospect for baseball fans and streaming enthusiasts alike. And if you’re enjoying the MLB action on Apple TV+, this could mean even more great content coming your way!
