Twitch adds 1440p and vertical streaming
Twitch is stepping up its game with the addition of some exciting new features. Get ready for a more TikTok-like experience with the introduction of vertical game streaming. Plus, enjoy watching your favorite League of Legends streams in higher resolution with the new 1440p video capability. And that’s not all – stream rewinds are on the way too!
During TwitchCon Europe, CEO Dan Clancy revealed these upcoming changes that are sure to enhance your viewing experience. Now, you can easily watch gameplay on your phone with portrait-mode streaming. Previously, Twitch only supported vertical orientation for clips and IRL streams, which showcase everyday activities instead of gameplay highlights.
But don’t worry if you prefer landscape mode – Twitch has got you covered with a dual-format mode. Creators can now stream in both vertical and horizontal orientations simultaneously, allowing you to choose the view that suits your device best. While testing will initially be limited to a small number of channels this summer, access will expand later in the year.
Exciting news for video quality enthusiasts – Twitch is introducing 1440p streams with a new HEVC codec that delivers a sharper picture using a lower bitrate. The Enhanced Broadcasting technology on the platform will automatically optimize the viewer’s resolution for an improved viewing experience. Partners and affiliates can start enjoying the benefits of 1440p streaming today, but keep in mind that it’s currently in open beta, so some creators may need to wait a bit longer for access.
Last but not least, Twitch is working on a rewind feature that will allow you to catch up on parts of a stream that you may have missed. While this feature is still in testing with a small group of viewers this summer, it’s definitely something to look forward to in the near future. Stay tuned for more updates and enjoy the enhanced streaming experience on Twitch!
