Prime Video just announced a ton of exciting new programs at its first-ever Canadian upfront event. The streaming service is making big moves to capture the attention of Canadian viewers and advertisers alike.
One of the upcoming shows is a two-part true-crime docuseries called Romcon: Who the F**k is Jason Porter?. This series, set to premiere globally on June 13, follows a convicted criminal known for his romantic deception. It’s produced by Blink49 Studios for Amazon MGM Studios, with Allison Brough and Toby Dormer as executive producers and Henry Roosevelt as the director.
If comedy is more your style, you’ll be happy to hear about Trailer Trash, a comedy docuseries about two brothers who turn their RV parts business into a success story. Production for this series is set to start soon in Alberta. The show is a partnership between Amazon MGM Studios and Lionsgate Canada, with Jacob Tierney (from Letterkenny and Shoresy) serving as executive producer.
Sports fans can look forward to a second season of the ice hockey docuseries Faceoff: Inside the NHL. This six-part series, produced by Box to Box Films and NHL Productions, offers an insider’s look at some of the NHL’s biggest names. The new season is expected to debut in the fall.
Prime Video also teased some other exciting titles, including Karaoké Club, a celebrity karaoke show based on a UK format, and Simple Plan: The Kids in the Crowd, a series about the Canadian rock band. The streaming service also mentioned the renewal of LOL: Qui Rira Le Dernier? for a fourth season and a scripted series called Vitrerie Joyal, starring Martin Matte.
Live sports are a key focus for Amazon, and Prime Video offers exclusive streaming rights to Prime Monday Night Hockey and NHL Coast to Coast in Canada. The presentation emphasized the convergence of content and commerce on the platform, highlighting various international originals in the pipeline.
In recent years, Amazon has been making significant strides in the Canadian video advertising market. This year’s upfront presentation showcased the company’s commitment to expanding its presence in the local market. With a lineup of diverse and engaging content, Prime Video is set to capture the attention of Canadian audiences in the coming months.
