TV producer of “You” and “Gossip Girl” discusses streaming and AI
Leslie Morgenstein, President and Chief Content Officer of Alloy Entertainment, has had a hand in creating over 900 hours of television content. According to Morgenstein, Alloy Entertainment hit the jackpot by producing shows during what he calls a “golden era of TV.” This resulted in many of their shows running for more than 100 episodes—a rare feat in today’s age of streaming.
In charge of Alloy Entertainment since 2000, Morgenstein has brought to life popular series like “Gossip Girl,” “Pretty Little Liars,” and Netflix’s “You.” Alloy Entertainment, which became part of Warner Bros. Television Studio in 2012, stands out from other production companies because they have the unique ability to package both books and TV shows.
Morgenstein explained that their team in Burbank handles adaptation and production, while their team in New York focuses on developing ideas and collaborating with authors. With control over the underlying rights of the intellectual property they create, Alloy Entertainment has the freedom to produce content for both film and TV.
In a recent interview with Marketplace host Kai Ryssdal at their office on the Warner Bros. lot in Burbank, Morgenstein delved into topics like streaming services, competition, and the impact of AI on the entertainment industry.
