And Just Like That Season 3: Addressing the Show’s Growing Problem

Now, I know we’ve all been eagerly waiting for the return of And Just Like That…, and it’s finally here with its third season on HBO Max! Just like our favorite characters, this sequel series has really settled into its groove. The premiere episode finds Carrie in her new dreamy townhome in Gramercy Park, a far cry from her cozy studio apartment. We’ve come a long way from Carrie using her oven as storage and barely having a dime in her savings account.

The new season, however, comes with some notable changes. With the departure of Che and Nya Wallace, we’re left with a cast of characters steeped in luxury and privilege. This season, the show’s focus has shifted from the relationships and dating escapades of the past to the carefree lifestyles of the rich and leisurely. While our characters are older and more settled now, the show seems to have lost a bit of its original spark.

But let’s not forget that And Just Like That… is not the only show out there centering around wealthy characters. HBO Max has brought us some incredible shows like The White Lotus, Succession, and Hacks, each with its own take on the lives of the rich and famous. In And Just Like That…, money serves as a mere backdrop for our heroines to navigate their fabulous yet mundane adventures. From searching for dog walkers to tackling college admissions consultants, the new season is filled with entertaining but somewhat superficial storylines.

Strangely enough, And Just Like That… now draws parallels to The Gilded Age, another HBO show where fashion reigns supreme. Both shows offer us an escape into the glamorous lives of their characters, with little else happening beyond a sprinkle of romance. While The Gilded Age at least attempts to incorporate the lives of its servant characters, AJLT is all about the glitz and glam, all the time. Pearl-offs and designer dining tables take center stage, leaving viewers to wonder if these characters have always been this self-involved.

As we dive into the third season of And Just Like That…, we find ourselves returning to these characters out of habit rather than excitement. While the show may have lost some of its original magic, there’s still a sense of comfort in following the lives of our favorite New Yorkers. Let’s see where this new season takes us and hope for some surprises along the way!
