Wrexham Documentary Series Renewed for Fifth Season
Welcome to Wrexham, the popular documentary series following the ownership journey of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, has received the green light for a fifth season. Originally broadcast on FX in the U.S. and Disney+ in the UK, the show has resonated with audiences since its debut in 2022.
Currently in the middle of its fourth season, the show captures the thrilling 2024-25 EFL League One season, culminating in Wrexham’s remarkable third consecutive promotion. This achievement will see Phil Parkinson’s team competing in the Championship starting in August, just one step away from the Premier League.
Exciting news arrived on Wednesday as the confirmation of a fifth season for Welcome to Wrexham was announced. Fans can look forward to the cameras once again documenting the team, players, and supporters throughout the 2025-26 season.
In addition to the fifth season, a new TV spin-off docuseries featuring Necaxa, a Mexican club, has been revealed. This new venture, spearheaded by Reynolds and McElhenney, follows the success of the ‘Welcome to…’ franchise, focusing on behind-the-scenes access, supporter stories, and community impact, with Eva Longoria leading the ownership team.
For Wrexham, the fifth season is another significant milestone in the club’s transformation from a local team to a global brand. The documentary series has attracted substantial sponsorship deals, boosting the club’s annual revenue to £26.7 million in the 2023-24 financial year.
Despite not receiving direct funding from the show, Welcome to Wrexham has elevated the club’s profile, with over half of its income now coming from international sources, primarily North America. This newfound exposure has solidified Wrexham’s position as a prominent commercial asset and propelled them to new heights in the world of football.
