Hairdresser Saves Life: Teen Suntan Obsession Risk

A mum-of-two from Market Deeping, Lincolnshire, Michaela Peacock, 35, was shocked to discover a giant cancerous mole on her scalp, which was missed until she absentmindedly felt it while watching TV. The mole, the size of a 10p coin, prompted Michaela to seek advice from her hairdresser, who noticed that it had grown darker and larger since her last appointment, advising her to get it checked out. Following a visit to her GP and a hospital, Michaela was diagnosed with stage 1a melanoma, likely caused by sunburn during her teenage years when she used to tan without sunscreen.

Feeling “paranoid” about going out in daylight following the diagnosis, Michaela shared her story to raise awareness about the importance of sun protection. Undertaking an anxious wait to determine the status of her other moles, she emphasized the necessity of applying SPF regularly to prevent skin damage and potential risks. Michaela’s experience serves as a reminder of the importance of sun safety and the potential dangers of unprotected sun exposure. Remember, prevention is key when it comes to skin cancer, so ensuring you protect your skin is crucial in maintaining your health and well-being.
