Atsuko Okatsuka in ‘Father’ Trailer: Will She Be the One Who Crumbles?
Atsuko Okatsuka, in her Hulu stand-up special “Father”, talks about how her fans like to call her “Mother,” but she insists she’s more of a “Father.” In the trailer for her upcoming Hulu special, she addresses this by saying, “[They] are always out there being like, ‘Atsuko is mother. She is mother. She is mothering,’ Oh no, no, no. I … am father.”
This special, premiering on June 13 on Hulu, is titled “Atsuko Okatsuka: Father.” It marks Okatsuka’s debut on Hulu and her second overall stand-up special, following 2022’s “The Intruder” on HBO and Max. Hulu describes her as “thriving professionally yet clueless about basics,” which prompted her self-proclaimed title as “Father.”
In the trailer, Okatsuka humorously shares moments like asking her husband to turn on the washing machine, only to realize he’s been doing the laundry all along. She also jokes about societal expectations for women to be strong figures, expressing a desire to embrace vulnerability instead.
“Father” is executive produced by Atsuko Okatsuka, Ally Engelberg, and director Ryan Harper Gray. It joins Hulu’s lineup of stand-up sets, featuring comedians like Bill Burr and others.
