The Charlotte City Council has selected former council member Edwin Peacock to fill the District 6 seat left vacant by Tariq Bokhari last month.
Mayor Vi Lyles broke a 5-5 tie vote Monday afternoon between Peacock and Krista Bokhari, wife of Tariq Bokhari.
Peacock, a Republican, will serve until December. Voters will choose a new district representative in November.
Tariq Bokhari vacated his seat in April after taking a position with President Donald Trump’s administration as deputy administrator of the Federal Transit Administration.

Bokhari was one of two Republican members serving on the Charlotte City Council. It was a requirement that a Republican candidate be selected as his replacement.
Peacock previously served as a city council member from 2007 to 2011.
