IT Prequel Series Welcome to Derry Trailer Debuts on HBO Max

HBO Max’s upcoming It prequel series, Welcome to Derry, just dropped its first trailer, giving us a chilling glimpse into the world of Pennywise the Clown. Set in 1962, the story follows a group of kids in Derry, Maine, who uncover dark secrets about the town after reports of missing children emerge.

As is tradition in the It universe, these brave youngsters band together to unravel the mysteries of their seemingly normal town, despite the disbelief of the adults around them. The trailer teases blood, screams, eerie smiles, and of course, the iconic Pennywise making a bone-chilling appearance, portrayed once again by Bill Skarsgård.

Created by Andy Muschietti, the mastermind behind the two It films, this nine-episode series delves into Pennywise’s reign of terror 27 years before the events of the movies. Muschietti and his sister, Barbara, shared with Entertainment Weekly their passion for Stephen King’s source material and the desire to explore more of the story. They specifically highlight the focus on fear as a weapon, a theme that remains relevant even today.

With a rich tapestry of characters and events, Welcome to Derry promises to captivate fans with its exploration of friendship, loss, and the power of unity in the face of evil. Set against the backdrop of 1962 and the looming specter of the Cold War, this series promises to take viewers on a terrifying journey through the dark history of Derry.
