Charlotte City Council names Edwin Peacock III to fill District 6 seat

Peacock won against candidate Krista Bokhari after a mayoral tie-breaking vote.

South Charlotte’s District 6 has a new representative.Charlotte City Council members named Edwin Peacock III to fill the vacant seat left by former representative Tariq Bokhari. Bokhari resigned from his position on April 20 to serve as deputy administrator of the Federal Transit Administration.

Peacock won the vote over Bokhari’s wife, Krista Bokhari, after Mayor Vi Lyles cast a tie-breaking vote. The vote occurred during the council’s zoning meeting on Monday evening.Peacock is a former commissioner at-large and former mayoral candidate.  Pro Tem Dante Anderson, Malcolm Graham, LaWana Slack-Mayfield, James Mitchell and Marjorie Molina also voted for Peacock.

Councilmembers Dimple Ajmera, Tiawana Brown, Ed Driggs, Renee Johnson, and Victoria Watlington voted for Krista.
