It’s the third Sunday in May, meaning it’s time for the Preakness Stakes!
The second race in the 2025 Triple Crown is set for this afternoon, but in a blow to the Kentucky Derby winner Sovereignty’s bid to win all three, the horse won’t race today; instead, Sovereignty will skip the Preakness and head straight to the June 7 Belmont Stakes.

How to watch the 2025 Kentucky Derby for free:
If you don’t have cable or a TV antenna, you’ll need a live TV streaming service to catch the Kentucky Derby for free. One option we love is DIRECTV, which comes with five days free and starts at $59.99/month, with plenty of subscription options that include NBC so you can choose the one that works best for you.
Other ways to stream the Kentucky Derby without cable:
Another cost-effective way to tune in to the 2025 Preakness is with a subscription to Peacock, NBC’s streaming service.
Peacock currently costs $7.99/month with ads and $13.99/month ad-free. The streamer also offers discounted annual plans, which are either $79.99 with ads or $139.99 ad-free.

Peacock is also running a deal right now to save 68% on an annual plan — instead of $79.99, you’ll pay just $24.99 for an entire year.
