Netflix’s Gears of War Movie Progressing Forward

Great news for fans of the Gears of War franchise – it looks like the long-awaited movie adaptation is finally moving forward! The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that director David Leitch, known for his work on Atomic Blonde and Deadpool 2, is in talks to take on the project. Alongside Leitch, Kelly McCormick and Gears developer, The Coalition, are said to be producing the film. And to top it off, Jon Spaihts, the mind behind Dune, is reportedly on board to write the script.

It’s been a couple of years since Netflix acquired the rights to Gears of War, but it seems like things are starting to ramp up now. In addition to the movie, there’s also buzz about an adult animation series that will tie into the film. If all goes well, we could be seeing even more Gears content in the future.

The burning question on everyone’s mind is who will play the iconic character, Marcus Fenix? Wrestler turned actor Dave Bautista has expressed his strong interest in the role, and even has the approval of Gears co-creator, Cliff Bleszinski. With successful video game adaptations like the Super Mario Bros. Movie and the Sonic movies hitting theaters, it’s an exciting time for fans of the genre.

Microsoft gaming chief Phil Spencer recently mentioned that despite the setback with the TV adaptation of Halo, the company is still enthusiastic about bringing more video game adaptations to the screen. According to Spencer, learning from past projects like Halo and Fallout has only increased Microsoft’s confidence in this space, so we can definitely expect more in the future.

In the gaming world, The Coalition is also hard at work on a prequel to Gears of War titled Gears of War: E-Day, although no release date has been announced yet. Exciting times are ahead for fans of the franchise, and it’s clear that there’s a lot to look forward to in the world of video game adaptations.
