Max Streaming Service Reviving HBO Name

HBO is making a comeback, well, sort of. Warner Bros. Discovery announced that it will be renaming its streaming service HBO Max starting this summer, replacing the current Max moniker.

Back in 2023, when Warner merged with Discovery, they chose the name Max for their streaming service, a decision that raised some eyebrows. HBO has always been synonymous with top-notch quality, while Max was more associated with the lesser-known Cinemax network.

Now, two years later, the company is going back to the original HBO Max brand, which was in use before the merger took place. Although they didn’t explicitly admit to any missteps, the announcement received a round of applause during a presentation to advertisers.

David Zaslav, the president and CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, highlighted the success of their streaming service, attributing it to the high quality of their programming. Bringing back the HBO brand, known for its top-tier content, is expected to further boost their growth in the years to come.

In a lighthearted moment, HBO executive Casey Bloys mentioned that he now has a drawer full of old stationery that he can dust off and put to use once again. Looks like it’s back to the future for HBO Max!
