Benito Skinner on Overcompensating: What Kardashian Spoofs Taught Him

After gaining fame on social media, Benito Skinner is now taking his talents to TV. He’s the brains behind Overcompensating, a new comedy on Prime Video based somewhat on his own experiences in college. The show follows Benny, a football player struggling to come to terms with his sexuality. You may know Skinner better as Benny Drama, the master of viral skits and spot-on celeb impersonations, especially his Kardashian spoofs where he plays the whole fam.

At the show’s premiere in LA, Skinner shared with The Hollywood Reporter that making the leap to traditional TV was a new challenge, saying he was focused on “trying to think of stakes.” He also mentioned that his Kardashian skits had actually helped him with structuring episodes. While nothing fully prepared him for TV, he expressed his excitement for the opportunity to tell these stories. Skinner credits his time in social media for giving him a variety of skills, as he “wore many hats” during his online career.
