Will There Be a Season 2 of ‘Forever’ on Netflix? Is There Hope for Keisha and Justin?
The conclusion of Netflix’s latest series, Forever, took viewers on an unexpected emotional rollercoaster. After such a heartfelt ending, fans everywhere are left wondering if a potential Season 2 could continue the story for Keisha and Justin.
Based on Judy Blume’s 1975 book, the show centers around the experiences of two Black teenagers, Keisha (Lovie Simone) and Justin (Michael Cooper Jr.), as they navigate the challenges of young love and self-discovery.
Showrunner Mara Brock Akil shared, “All the questions we have to sort through – the first time you have sex, your first kiss, the first time you say ‘I love you’ – it resonated then, and it resonates now.” The series captures their journey through high school, love, and post-graduation aspirations, set against the vibrant backdrop of contemporary Los Angeles.
Although Forever was initially considered a limited series, there is still optimism for a potential sequel. While Netflix has not officially renewed the show, the creators and cast members remain hopeful for a Season 2. Brock Akil mentioned in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, “there’s ‘absolutely room’ for a second season”, emphasizing the importance of character-driven narratives and complex love stories for the audience.
Michael Cooper Jr. and Lovie Simone also expressed their eagerness for another season, with Cooper Jr. stating, “depending on how it’s received, we may be able to come back for season 2.” Simone added, “I would love to see what [Keisha] turns into. […] I feel like they were in places in their lives where they said, ‘Hey, maybe this is not going to be helpful for the things that I have to consider and do for myself in this portion of my life.'”
As the possibility of Forever Season 2 lingers on the horizon, fans can only hope that Keisha and Justin’s story will be further explored and expanded upon in the future.
