Catholic Charities Sues Former Finance Director for Misuse of Millions

Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee recently made headlines for filing a lawsuit against a former employee over alleged misuse of millions of dollars. The lawsuit also names Baker Tilly, the firm auditing the nonprofit’s finances during the period of the alleged fraud. According to a statement from Catholic Charities, the Board of Trustees, with support from Archbishop Grob, believes in upholding their mission and seeking justice. The 12-page lawsuit outlines how the former employee, who served in various roles including director of finance, reportedly misappropriated funds through two distinct schemes. One scheme involved paying false invoices, while the other saw personal expenses charged to company credit cards for items like Amazon Prime video rentals, Uber rides, Ticketmaster purchases, and even casino expenses at MGM Grand. Catholic Charities claims that Baker Tilly failed to identify the fraudulent activities. When a reporter visited the former employee’s address, the person residing there mentioned that the defendant no longer lived there. Baker Tilly declined to comment, citing client confidentiality. The District Attorney’s Office has yet to respond regarding potential charges against the former employee. Feel free to reach out to TMJ4 News if you have any thoughts or insights on this story.
