Police Shoot and Kill Aggressive Peacock During Service Call – Latest News
In LaGrange, Georgia, police officers recently made headlines for a unique service call involving a peacock causing trouble in the area. Responding to numerous reports of injuries and property damage linked to the bird, the LaGrange Police Department found themselves faced with a challenging situation that eventually led to using a shotgun to euthanize the peacock.
According to reports from WSB, officers had been receiving calls about the unruly peacock for over a year and a half. Their most recent encounter occurred at a medical facility on April 28th, where attempts to control the bird using nonlethal methods like beanbag guns proved unsuccessful. Despite efforts to avoid lethal force, concerns for public safety were paramount, especially with an elementary school nearby and children potentially at risk.
After multiple failed attempts to capture the peacock using various tactics, including tasers and catch poles, officers made the difficult decision to use live ammunition to ensure the safety of those in the vicinity. While the outcome was unfortunate, it was deemed necessary based on the animal’s unpredictability.
It’s worth noting that peacocks are not native to Georgia and are not classified as endangered species, which means that local authorities like the Department of Natural Resources do not typically intervene in situations involving these birds. In this case, the lack of options for relocating the peacock to a more suitable environment further complicated matters.
Despite the difficult circumstances surrounding the incident, the decision to euthanize the peacock was ultimately made in the interest of public safety and to prevent potential harm to residents and patients in the vicinity.
