HBO Exec Discusses Plan to Release TV Seasons All at Once
Ever found yourself watching an episode of House of the Dragon or The White Lotus and wishing you could binge-watch the whole season right away? You’re not alone! HBO’s content chief Casey Bloys has pondered this too, especially seeing how Netflix and Hulu drop full seasons in one go.
But before you get too excited, HBO isn’t planning on changing their release strategy any time soon. Bloys recently shared that HBO and Max will continue with weekly episode releases because, well, it works for them. At a panel on the future of the entertainment industry, Bloys mentioned that having a new series every week is different from a new episode and that there are financial considerations at play.
HBO’s track record with hits like Succession, Euphoria, and Big Little Lies speaks for itself, with the audience growing every week. Bloys emphasized the importance of the community that forms around weekly shows, including writers, podcasters, and TV enthusiasts. He explained that creators also prefer this setup, believing it’s the best of both worlds.
So, while you may have to wait for new episodes week by week, remember you can always go back and binge-watch all 15 hours of The Pitt whenever you want. Looks like HBO is sticking to what works best for them, and we can’t argue with that!
