Disney+ Acquires International Rights for Paramount Films – What to Watch on Disney+
Disney+ has some exciting news for subscribers in the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia. They’ve recently licensed a bunch of movies from Paramount, adding a fresh selection of films to their lineup. Some of the titles you can now enjoy include classics like “Mean Girls”, “Grease”, “Grease 2”, “Clueless”, and “How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days”.
This isn’t an exclusive deal, though, as these films are also available on other streaming platforms like Paramount+. It seems like Paramount is going through some changes, including a merger with Skydance, and is exploring new ways to boost its revenue. Many big studios, including Warner Brothers Discovery and Disney, have been sharing their older titles with other services for extra income.
If you’re in the US, you might already be familiar with Disney’s licensing deal for selected legacy titles on Hulu. Films like “Meet The Fockers”, “War Of the Worlds”, and even the “Indiana Jones” movies have been available for streaming. It’s uncertain if we can expect more Paramount-owned titles on Disney+ in the future, or if this is a one-time deal.
As streaming platforms continue to evolve, it’s interesting to see studios shifting their strategies. Instead of competing directly, some are choosing to license their content, providing subscribers with more variety. While it’s great to see these new movies on Disney+, it wouldn’t hurt to delve into Disney’s own back catalogue for even more titles to freshen up our watchlists.
