85th Peabody Awards Winners Revealed
The 85th annual Peabody Awards recently announced the winners for the most captivating and inspiring stories in broadcasting and streaming media for 2024. With over 1,000 entries across television, podcasts/radio, and the web, the winners were selected by a unanimous vote of 27 jurors. From shedding light on global issues to providing heartfelt entertainment, the winners truly deserve recognition and celebration.
Netflix was the leading winner with 6 awards, followed by HBO/Max with 4, and PBS with 3. The documentary category stood out this year with 12 wins, followed closely by entertainment, interactive/immersive programming, podcasts/radio, and news categories with 7, 4 each.
Two specialty awards were previously announced: Andrea Mitchell received the Peabody Career Achievement Award, and Saturday Night Live won the Institutional Award. The awards ceremony will be hosted by Roy Wood Jr. on June 1 at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Los Angeles. The event will be produced by Bob Bain Productions, with Delta as the sponsor and Variety as the media partner.
Among the winners, “Photographer” from National Geographic stood out in the Arts category, highlighting renowned photographers and their impact on environmental issues and the representation of the African diaspora. Other notable winners include “Out of My Mind” from Disney+ in the Children’s/Youth category, and documentaries like “Any Other Way: The Jackie Shane Story,” “Black Box Diaries,” “Bread & Roses,” “Daughters,” “Mountain Queen: The Summits of Lhakpa Sherpa,” and “Night is Not Eternal,” each delving into compelling real-life stories and experiences.
