The winners of the 85th annual Peabody Awards have been announced, and it’s an impressive lineup this year! Among the 34 winners chosen by the Peabody Awards jury are some familiar names from the Emmy-winning series Baby Reindeer, Ripley, and Shōgun. They are sharing the spotlight with other outstanding shows like Fantasmas, Mr Bates vs The Post Office, Say Nothing, and We Are Lady Parts.
Even some documentaries that didn’t quite make the cut for the Oscars found appreciation in the television realm at the Peabody Awards, including titles such as Black Box Diaries, The Remarkable Life of Ibelin, and Will & Harper. The Executive Director of Peabody, Jeffrey Jones, highlighted the diversity of topics covered by this year’s winners, ranging from global issues like the war in Gaza to more personal stories focused on disabilities and community connection.
A total of 34 winners were chosen out of 68 nominees across various categories, with Netflix leading the pack with six awards, followed by HBO/Max with four, and PBS close behind with three. The jurors, consisting of 27 members, made their selections through a unanimous vote.
In addition to the series and documentaries receiving honors, two special awards will be given at the ceremony. NBC News correspondent Andrea Mitchell will be honored with the Peabody Career Achievement Award, while the iconic series Saturday Night Live will receive the Institutional Award for its 50-season run.
The awards ceremony is set to take place at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel on June 1st, hosted by Roy Wood Jr. with all the winners in attendance for a night of celebration. From entertaining series like Baby Reindeer to thought-provoking documentaries like Night is Not Eternal, this year’s Peabody Awards lineup promises a diverse range of content that deserves to be recognized and celebrated by audiences.
