Prime Video NASCAR Garage 56 Documentary Premiere on June 12

Prime Video has announced the exciting premiere of its upcoming documentary, American Thunder: NASCAR to Le Mans, set to debut on June 12th. This feature-length film delves into the story of NASCAR’s 2023 Garage 56 entry—an American stock car that took on the challenge of competing in the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans race.

Formerly titled Garage 56, this documentary will be exclusively available on Prime Video, giving viewers across more than 240 countries and territories a chance to watch this thrilling story unfold. Produced by NASCAR Studios and Griffin Van Malssen, and directed by Brad Lockhart, the film promises an inside look at this remarkable journey.

The 2023 24 Hours of Le Mans was a historic event, marking the 100th running of this legendary race. Prior to the race, NASCAR received an invitation to bring a Camaro stock car to compete against some of the best cars and drivers in endurance sports car racing. This opportunity allowed NASCAR Chairman and CEO Jim France to partner with Hendrick Motorsports, a powerhouse team in the NASCAR Cup Series, to build the Garage 56 Chevrolet Camaro.

Over 18 months, Hendrick Motorsports transformed the NASCAR-style stock car, typically used for short oval races, into a contender for the grueling 24-hour event at Le Mans. With racing legends Jenson Button, Jimmie Johnson, and Mike Rockenfeller behind the wheel, the team tackled the challenge head-on.

Despite qualifying in the 37th position, the NASCAR/Hendrick Motorsports No. 24 Chevrolet Camaro gave it their all at Le Mans, finishing 39th in the field of 62 cars. While they crossed the finish line 57 laps behind the winning No. 51 Ferrari AF Corse team, the experience was undoubtedly a memorable one for all involved.

Stay tuned for the premiere of American Thunder: NASCAR to Le Mans this June 12th on Prime Video, where you can witness the incredible journey of NASCAR’s Garage 56 entry firsthand.
